Blogging in Someone Else's Home

Am I the only one who finds it incredibly awkward blogging in someone else's home? Especially when no one in 'said' home even knows about your blog?

As I've mentioned before we're currently staying at my mother's place until we save a bit of money and no one (aside from Craig) knows that I blog. And I'd like to keep it that way for now but it makes blogging a little difficult. Especially since my computer broke and I need to use my brother's. I was really thinking after the move and having a computer to work with, my blogging mojo would come back full force and I'd have new content out every few days.

But that's not the case.

Finding the time to sit and write a post isn't easy when you only have certain windows of opportunity when nobody else is home. It's doubly hard when you have a toddler to take care of and more often than not, your window of opportunity slips on by because you're busy doing something else. Lux is currently napping which is how I'm getting this post up. Of course I can wait for nap time everyday and write a post but I don't want every post to be like this one. This feels rushed and I don't like it. I don't even know if I'm making any sense.

This is just my long winded way of saying sorry I've been so slack! I want to blog. I want to post great content. I want to sit and read other blogs. I want to love blogging again.

I can only try my best for right now.

Thank you to anyone who has stuck around with me and those who still stop by to read what I DO post lately. I've noticed I've already lost a few followers recently so that makes me appreciate the ones who stick around that much more :)

Until next time I hope you all have a wonderful, magical day <3

Lux's 1st Birthday

June 1st was such a fun, special day.

Lux woke up at exactly 6:15 that morning so we counted down the five minutes to 6:20 - the time she arrived exactly one year ago. At 6:20 I sang her happy birthday and I may have cried. Okay, I did cry... it just brought me back to her birth and made me realize we did it. We made it a whole year together! One whole amazing, hard, life will never be the same (in a good way) year.

For her first birthday we didn't have a "party". I mean, she's one. She won't even remember this birthday. But we did decorate, have family over and eat lots of cake. Well...I ate lots of cake.

In case it isn't obvious enough, we went with a Finding Dory theme! If I'm being truthful I think it was more for me than for her. I've been obsessed with Dory lately! She's so cute!

As is tradition, once the candles are blown out on the cake, the birthday girl gets to dig her tiny hands into the cake and try a piece for the very first time..

And so she did.

This is where the fun began. We've always known Lux had an issue with dairy but she was never full blown exposed to it before. What little bit she has had would cause a little digestive upset and not much else. Most icings I've dealt with are dairy free so I didn't think her cake would bother her too much. However, once I tasted the cake myself I came to realize the entire thing was made of whipped cream. No icing at all. To make a long story short she broke out in hives and was up majority of the night crying.

Aside from that though I think she had a fantastic first birthday! She received lots of nice gifts and even got her first skateboard...

Of course it'll be a while before she's totally ready for it but check out that balance already! She's so awesome :)

It was a day for the books that's for sure :)

Hope you enjoyed a little glimpse of Lux's first birthday!

12 Months Old

Wow! It's actually here. The last of my girl's "baby" updates. She is officially entering toddlerhood. How in the world has this year gone by so quickly? As I previously thought, this last month truly was huge in milestones.

SHE'S WALKING!! One week after she turned 11 months my baby took her first steps! Since then she's become quite speedy and prefers walking over crawling now. It's so cute watching her walk around everywhere. She's so tiny it looks like she shouldn't even be walking yet haha

TOP TEETH. Her two top teeth finally broke through. And thank heavens because she is not exactly pleasant to deal with when she is cutting teeth. Total tooth count is now at five!

NO MORE SOOTHER! This was a big one. Once we could see her top teeth coming we decided it was time to say bye-bye to her soothers. It actually went incredibly well. I think it only took about three days for her to be completely over wanting her soother. And yes, we took it away cold turkey because she really didn't bother with it a ton. She only ever needed it to fall asleep with. She was never one to just walk around throughout the day with a soother in her mouth so I think that helped a lot with taking it away!

So there wasn't a whole lot of updates for this month but the three I mentioned were pretty huge around here! During her 11th month she also went to the zoo for the first time which she loved and I got to celebrate my very first mother's day :) It's been an incredible year and I cannot quite believe Lux is one already. Here's to another great year!

Oaklawn Farm Zoo | Aylesford, N.S

On May 13th we saw the first hot day of the year and decided this beautiful, sunny, extremely hot day would be perfect for venturing down to Aylesford (the valley) to Oaklawn Farm Zoo.

Oaklawn Farm Zoo is unique because it's a farm and totally looks like a farm yet they have a mixture of farm animals and zoo animals. You can find pigs and horses and goats and baby rabbits and you can also find lions and tigers and zebras and monkeys. There seems to be a little bit of everything there.

I always feel so torn when visiting zoos and wildlife parks though. I can see at Oaklawn Farm Zoo that they treat the animals incredibly well and there's so much open space on the land (the family even lives right on the farm) but at the same time I always feel sad when I see animals in cages. I guess it's always hard to see the animals as happy when they are locked up huh? Hopefully they are though.

She was pooped by the end of our trip and happily snuggled her new llama friend (until she decided he looked tasty and started eating his "fur") I love taking Lux new places and allowing her to experience new things. She makes everything we do ten times more fun!

Long Time No Chat!

Soo I'm back! No, I did not get my computer fixed and no I did not save up for a new one yet. I'm currently using my brother's laptop until I can get a new one for myself so I'm trying to get a bunch of drafts written up!

A little life update. We have finally finished moving! It was hectic for a few days there but we've successfully moved everything into storage and are currently staying at my mom's place until we save a bit of money. This is good. As much as it sucks moving back into your mom's place (especially when you need to move back in with your own family in tow) this is what we needed to do at the moment. And I'm totally okay with that.

Lux just celebrated her first birthday! Which I'll be sharing on here in a couple of days! It's so crazy to think that she's one already. Where did the last year go!?

That's all I've got to update you on right now. Just wanted to say Hello!! and that I've got a few posts ready to go over the next few days :)

Thanks for sticking around!

An Unexpected Break

Well, it looks like I'll be taking a blog break for a little while. My computer has broken for good this time. I need to save up for a new one and since we're in the midst of moving, financially, I just can't afford to put away extra money towards one right now. I'm a little gutted about it as we've finally been getting back outside on some adventures that I was looking forward to sharing with you and Lux's first birthday is coming up. But I guess I can still post about them at a later date! Hopefully I'll be talking to you guys soon (if you decide to stick around until then!)

The Answer To My "Perfect" Foundation Finding Dilemma

For a long time, like, a real long time..I've been on the hunt for THE perfect foundation for my skin. I can't count how many different kinds I've tested. Sometimes I would try one and absolutely love it at first but then after a few wears I just end up hating it like most of the other foundations I buy.

For me, the perfect foundation is lightweight, matches my skin perfectly, doesn't show my dry patches and covers any blemishes.

And guess what?

I've finally found the answer.

Are you ready for this?

BAM! That's it. The only thing I'm going to use now is a little concealer for my under eyes and a little bit of blush.

No. My skin is not flawless. Yes. I have red areas and large pores but honestly, this now looks better to me than seeing foundation slathered on my face.

I don't know why it's taken me so long to realize that I don't need nor want to wear foundation. Maybe I've finally seen the light or have had some sort of life changing epiphany...I really don't know. But it just happened. I was getting ready one day- about to apply my foundation (which literally smelled exactly like latex paint) and I thought no. I'm just going to use a bit of concealer under my eyes and see how that goes.
And you know what? I really liked it.

I liked how it looked. I liked how it felt. As strange as it might sound I felt FREE.

For the first time in a long time I was totally and completely okay with how my face looked without foundation.

No longer will I have to pay to slather my face with harmful chemicals.
No longer will I look washed out because the closest shades to my natural skin tone are ghostly.
No longer will I fret about the fact that my foundation still clings to all of my dry patches even though I moisturized beforehand.

Yes. It feels good.

I'm not telling you to go through your makeup and toss out all of your foundations- that's not my place. But I do urge you to at least give the no foundation thing a try! Even for one day.

You might be surprised to find out how much you actually like your natural face. I sure was.

So Many Changes!

I know I haven't been keeping up with my posts lately (even though I keep telling myself I will) but there seems to be so much going on, changes are happening and I just can't keep up. They aren't bad changes though. For once, things seem to be going okay.

let's get this one out of the way first...
A change in blog design. Been there done that a million times already but I thought it was worth noting. I quite like it this time so hopefully I'll keep it this way for a while.

my new gluten-free dairy-free diet...
To put it simply, it's amazing. I've known for a while that I'm very sensitive to dairy products. Countless times I've gone dairy free but I was never able to stick with it. While it helped with some of my stomach issues I would still feel pretty crappy even though I completely removed dairy from my diet. I wouldn't notice any "real" changes so I would always give up and start eating dairy again. Well, a little over a month ago I decided to stop with the dairy again and after a lot of research I learned that majority of my issues can be symptoms of a gluten intolerance. I don't want to go into too much detail here because I think I'll write an entire post dedicated to what made me think about going gluten free and why I actually decided to remove gluten from my diet but to make a long story short for now, I have never felt better since going gluten free. For once in the 10 years that I've been struggling with losing weight I am finally seeing results. Anyway, like I said, I'll go into more detail soon in another post.

bye bye crappy apartment...
We're finally leaving this god awful apartment. I won't bore you with all of the reasons why it's so awful in this post but you can check out the post I wrote back in January appropriately named 5 Reasons I Hate Our New Apartment. By the end of this month we'll have everything packed away and heading to my mom's place to stay for a few months. Living here royally kicked our butts financially (thanks to the lovely power bills we were getting) so it was decided that we should take some time to stay with my mom and save as much as possible to get some debts paid. I'm actually really looking forward to this. I feel like there's this huge weight lifted off of me and I can finally breathe again.

Lux has also been dealing with some fabulous changes of her own lately but I'll wait to write about those in her update next month :) Also! I'm on the verge of making a huge hair change!! I'm like 95% sure I want to do it but I'm not quite there yet haha So keep a look out for that in the near future!

11 Months Old!

Whattt!? Where has the time gone? I truly can't believe this time next month she'll be one whole year and I'll be writing her very last monthly update. It makes me so emotional! In every single update I write about Lux the very first picture is always the one I take on that exact day. Like the one above, I just took that ten minutes ago. I love capturing the day she turns a new month age. This picture really hit me today. Not only is it getting harder than ever to get her to sit still for a picture but she's been showing me her growing agitation when it comes to sitting still to have her picture taken haha! This picture also shows how much older she's getting. I know she's still little but for some reason I feel like her "baby" look is slowly diminishing and she's looking (and acting) like a little girl. It's amazing and terrifying all at once. Anyway, let's see what she got up to this past month shall we....

Every time she's in her high chair eating a meal or even a snack if you ask her if it tastes good she'll hold it out for you to try a nibble for yourself! It's adorable.

Speaking of food....whenever she even sees food she starts going "mmmm" over and over until she gets some haha!

Of course we have to make a special note about her first Easter! She had no idea what was going on but it was so fun watching her look through her Easter basket this year. You can read about her first Easter here!

Her first encounter with the easter bunny was a success! I really thought she would cry when she saw him but surprisingly she didn't! She was a little wary at first but she was totally fine with him!

She finally understands how to tip the sippie cup back to get a drink. Took a little minute but she got it ;)

She can now stand completely by herself without the help of one of us or holding on to something. She even took one teeny tiny step forward but decided that was it. Hopefully this time next month she'll be walking!

She has now learned how to climb up the stairs! Thankfully, at the moment, the place we're living doesn't have stairs but we're moving next month so that's something we'll have to keep an eye on!

She's like super late to board the tooth train but her third has finally cut through! Still no top teeth though. All three so far are on the bottom!

Well that's it for another month! I can't believe how big my girl is getting. I hope you enjoyed and look out for her one year update next month :)
