November Blogger of the Month | Anika May

Hey everyone! Since its the end of November its time for the blogger of the month interview! This month went to Anika from the blog Anika May. Let's jump into the questions..

+ TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF AND YOUR BLOG.
Sure. Hello lovely people! My name's Anika, I'm a Yorkshire-based blogger and the girl behind Anika May. I'm a countryside girl and absolutely love photography. I work part-time for two amazing charities I run with my mum, Clothing Solutions and Beaneezy. Anika May began as a fashion-only blog, but as I got to know more about the business and my interests were broadened, I write about basically anything, from cool events and OOTDs to nature photography and life tips!

+ WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START BLOGGING?
I started my blog because my dream was to become a fashion journalist as a young teen, and I thought my own little corner on the internet would be a great way to start and get a few more skills. I grew up in the fashion industry so magazines were a huge influence on me and inspired me to follow fashion. I also came across bloggers like Patricia Bright and Zoella who really motivated me to just be myself online and love what I do.

+ WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT SO FAR BLOGGING WISE?
If I had to pick one, I'd have to say making some new friends. I'm ridiculously shy, so being able to talk to people at events and even attend events on my own is a huge stepping stone for me. Since starting my blog, my confidence has improved so much because I've started to believe in myself, and that feeling is the most rewarding achievement I could ask for.

+ WHAT TYPE OF POSTS DO YOU ENJOY WRITING THE MOST?
Any sort of lifestyle post. Whether it's a 'how-to' or just an honest post about what I've learned in life, hoping it will help others. It's great to see discussions in the comments section too. As much as I love fashion posts, the photos are a huge part of that and sometimes I can't write a deep post about an outfit!

+ 3 WORDS THAT DESCRIBE YOUR BLOG BEST.
Sincere, exciting, friendly.

+ NAME TWO OF YOUR FAVOURITE BLOGS THAT YOU FOLLOW.
I absolutely adore Levi Nguyen's blog, TLNIQUE. Not only is the design stunning, but her photography is also always on point. Another blog I think is amazing is The Sweetest Thing. Emily's style is wonderful and she's so beautiful!

+ FAVOURITE POST YOU'VE WRITTEN THIS PAST MONTH AND WHY?
It's got to be the Next Spring 2017 Press Day post. The day was amazing because I got to travel to London with Next to check out some of their new collections, and photograph everything. I enjoyed writing the post so much because I felt like a little fashion journalist, finding trends and just typing away...

+ ANY ADVICE FOR SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO START THEIR OWN BLOG?
Be you! Trying hard to fit the mould of other successful bloggers just won't work. Everyone will have a different path to their own definition of success. Blogging should be a hobby or career that you love, and you can't love something if you can't be you!

Thank you so much Anika for taking the time to answer these questions! Everyone make sure you head over to her blog and check it out!

Graves Island & Queensland Beach Provincial Parks

I had to combine two Provincial Parks together for this post because I just didn't have enough pictures of the both of them to make up a separate post each.

We visited these two parks in the same day. Along with the Cleveland Beach and East River Provincial Parks.

G R A V E S  I S L A N D  [ C H E S T E R . N S ]

These photos are just the worst. Probably because this was the worst Provincial Park I've been to yet. Honestly, I was so disappointed! It's quite a large park but all it really is is a campground. A depressing looking campground at that. There was nothing there but a few picnic benches. I really had to use the bathroom and luckily for me there was a campground bathroom up on a hill (first photo) so  ran up to use it. My god. I've never seen a bathroom so creepy. I was half expecting someone to jump out at me. If you ever find yourself in Nova Scotia- skip this park.

Annnnd more crappy photos. I didn't even get out of the car to take these because we were on our way home after a very long day and I just didn't feel like it. This is basically the beach though. A long stretch of sand. Queensland Beach is actually quite popular during the Summer though. It's always crowded. Maybe next summer we'll come back and actually enjoy it.

Thanks for reading :)

5 Things To Quit | Trying To Please Everyone

I'm not even sure how to start this so I'm just going to jump right in. I have really low self-esteem. Like, really low. To the point where I feel depressed most days. My anxiety levels often shoot through the roof and I'm left feeling deflated and confused. I don't like feeling like this. I hate it actually. I want to feel good about myself. I want to have confidence and set an example for Lux.

So that's what I'm going to do.

I found this quote that listed five things you should quit in order to feel happiness. So I've decided to write a five post series discussing each topic and how I'm going to change and hopefully start to build some self-esteem. Maybe this little series can help someone else who feels like this.

TRYING TO PLEASE EVERYONE

This is a hard one to beat. It's not that I want to please everyone. I just have a hard time saying no to people. I hate when someone asks me to do something face to face because I honestly can't say no to them. I always end up feeling guilty. But why? Why should I feel guilty for saying no to something I really don't want to do. People say no to me all the time! And it's not the end of the world.

It's totally okay to want to do things for people. I'm not saying that's bad. But when you know certain people are asking things of you because they know you won't say no, well, that's being taken advantage of. And we don't deserve that.

I know for me, I constantly put myself on the back burner. I go out of my way to make someone else feel good, I sit and listen quietly while the other person talks about their problems and I offer whatever advice I might have. But I've also noticed that there isn't a whole lot of people who do the same for me. So many times I'm left feeling like my problems don't matter. Like no one even wants to listen when I talk. Yet they've come to expect this out of me. Because I let them.

It's time for that to change.

I will always help others out who are in need but I will no longer try to please everyone. I will no longer put myself last. I will no longer feel guilty for not doing something. Especially if its something that makes me unhappy or uncomfortable.

I'm happy about my new journey to self-esteem, self-love and confidence. I hope you enjoy coming along on this journey with me!

DO YOU EVER STRUGGLE WITH TRYING TO PLEASE EVERYONE?

East River Provincial Park | Chester N.S

East River Provincial Park is a rather small park consisting of one road, a couple of picnic benches and some water. Nonetheless. it was still pretty. You can't tell very well but the water was the most stunning blue green colour.

10 Disney World Confessions

+ WE CAMPED AT DISNEY'S FORT WILDERNESS AND I THINK I WOULD PREFER THAT OVER STAYING IN ONE OF THE HOTELS.

+ AS MUCH AS I LOVED ANIMAL KINGDOM IT WAS MY LEAST FAVOURITE PARK TO VISIT BECAUSE IT WAS ALWAYS TEN TIMES HOTTER THAN THE OTHER PARKS.

+ MY FAVOURITE "COUNTRY" IN EPCOT WAS CANADA BECAUSE IT WAS THE ONLY PLACE I COULD FIND MY FAVOURITE SNACKS LOL

+ WE WERE AT DISNEY WORLD FOR NINE DAYS AND WE ACTUALLY DECIDED TO SKIP THE PARKS FOR ONE WHOLE DAY JUST TO RELAX.

+ I WISH I HAD BOUGHT MORE SOUVENIRS ON MY TRIP

+ I DIDN'T GET TO MEET ANY OF THE CHARACTERS I WANTED TO MEET- IN FACT I ONLY SAW TIGGER AND EEYORE

+ MY FEET HURT EVERY SINGLE DAY AT THE PARKS BECAUSE I DIDN'T PACK ANY COMFORTABLE SHOES

+ I WAS THAT GIRL WHO SCREAMED THROUGH THE ENTIRE ROLLER COASTER RIDE...

+ CRAIG LOST HIS HAT ON THE SPACE MOUNTAIN RIDE (MAGIC KINGDOM) AND WE ENDED UP HAVING TO GO ALL THE WAY BY EPCOT TO RETRIEVE IT

+ THE HAUNTED MANSION RIDE WAS MY MOST FAVOURITE. THE KALI RIVER RAPIDS CAME IN A CLOSE SECOND

Maybelline Superstay Better Skin Foundation-Review

This was supposed to be my first review for my new Best of the Best series but I realized back in March I reviewed the Maybelline Dream Velvet foundation so I guess this is technically my second review for the series. Oh well! On with the review!

First thing I have to say; I FREAKIN' LOVE THIS FOUNDATION. Ahem...now that that's out of the way..

Today I've got the Better Skin foundation to show you. It claims to be a skin transforming foundation with actyl c, known for its antioxidant benefits and your skin is supposed to look better and transformed in 3 weeks.

Well, I used this for a week before reviewing it for you guys and I don't know if this foundation had anything to do with it but I had pimples galore around my mouth and chin area that just would not go away. Seriously, I had them for like a month and a half straight. After a couple of days using this foundation I noticed they finally started to go away. Like I said, I don't know if the two had anything to do with one another but hey, I'll take it!

As always, my pasty butt needed to go with the lightest shade in the bunch- 10 Porcelain Ivory- and I am SO impressed with the colour match. I think its perfect. The bottle doesn't indicate what skin type this is best for but this to me is definitely a matte foundation and would work best for someone with combination/oily skin. With that being said I have normal to dry skin and while it does cling to dry patches a little- I totally love it. Its not that noticeable.

Here's a before and after for you. I apologize for the quality- I don't have decent lighting and my camera is threatening to crap out on me daily..

This is just one coat of the foundation by itself. No primer, moisturizer or concealer. I think it covers up redness beautifully and evens out my skin tone quite well. The packaging claims all day colour wear but I mean, I never wear makeup all day so I would say it definitely lasts a good 8 hours.

This has become my favourite foundation as of late and I give it a solid 9 out of 10. (only because it does cling to a few dry patches).

Oh, and it isn't too expensive. Like $12.96 at Wal-mart I believe.

WILL YOU TRY THIS FOUNDATION?
IF YOU HAVE, LET ME KNOW WHAT YOUR THOUGHTS ARE ON IT!

UPDATE** Definitely moisturize before applying if you have dry skin. I still stick to my original rating though.

The Best Of The Best

HEY! Just a quick post here explaining a new series I'll be introducing on the blog! This one is makeup related so all you beauty lovers will hopefully like this one. I have tried a lot of foundations. And I mean a lot. (Drugstore foundations, mind you) And I'm always on the lookout for the perfect foundation.

SO

I've decided to try everything I possibly can in each drugstore brand of makeup, test it out, and at the end reveal what I find to be 'The Best of the Best' in each brand!

I'll be starting with Maybelline and after each new product post I'll link all other reviews I've tested beforehand just for comparison reasons.

I hope you're excited about this because I know I sure am! First product will be up Wednesday!

Cleveland Beach Provincial Park | Queensland N.S

I must say, I think I'm doing rather well with my Provincial Park visits since deciding in August to visit every one in Nova Scotia. On our way to the scarecrow festival we managed to see four different parks! Cleveland Beach has been one of my favourites so far. It was kind of chilly but it was so beautiful.

Obviously nobody was there swimming and it was quite early so we had the place to ourselves.

I couldn't get over how gorgeous this place was. I almost want to come back next summer and go swimming but I feel like a crowd of people here would somehow take away its beauty.

Winter To-Do List

I know winter technically doesn't begin until December 21st but I thought I'd post my winter to-do list now because there are some things I want to have done well before Christmas like decorating, finish the shopping and having Lux's photo taken with Santa. Also, I am so beyond excited for this winter so I just didn't want to wait so long to start doing all of the fun, wintry things! :)

Let me know what's on your winter to-do list! Anything fun you want to try or do you have any special traditions you do every winter?

& don't forget..

Do I Regret Not Getting My Driver's License?

For as long as I can remember, getting my license was never a priority to me. At sixteen while all of my friends were out taking driving lessons and getting excited about their first cars, I just...wasn't. I had zero interest in driving. I can't even think of a time when I actually thought well maybe I should get them?

Now I'm 26.

I still don't have my license and I have to ask myself whether or not I regret that decision.

To put it simply- yes. I do regret it.

If you asked me that even just a year ago I would have said no, I don't regret it. Because then, I still wasn't interested in driving. To be honest I'm really not even interested now.

The only reason I want my license now is because of Lux.

See, once you have a baby, the benefits of having a license far outweighs the negatives.

+ I CAN GET HER TO APPOINTMENTS
We moved to a new apartment back in July and its kind of far from where we used to live. I've tried getting us a new family doctor out here but they are all full and not taking anymore patients which means we have to drive almost an hour to any doctors appointments we might have. The drive isn't an issue but since I don't have my license Craig has to take work off whenever we have appointments just to drive us there. Him missing a day of work to take us to an appointment is just unnecessary.

+ WE WOULDN'T BE STUCK IN THE HOUSE EVERY DAY
This is a big one for me. Our new apartment is on a very busy road and there aren't any sidewalks so I can't even take Lux for any walks. We literally spend every day- Mon to Fri- at home. If I had my license we could go to parks and to walking trails. We could go run errands and buy groceries. We could do anything.

+ IN CASE OF EMERGENCIES
You have no idea how much it stresses me out thinking about something bad happening- especially to Lux - and I wouldn't have any way to get her to a hospital. Yeah, that's definitely the biggest benefit of having my license right now.

So, with all that being said, I'm going to write my beginner's license sometime this month and hopefully have my full license soon.

I can't help but feel like it would have been so much easier if I just would have gotten them when I was sixteen. It's like I'm afraid of learning to drive now. Oh well. It's time to face that fear! I'm actually getting kind of excited about it...

Oakfield Provincial Park | Oakfield N.S

Another provincial park bites the dust! This time around we visited Oakfield Provincial Park. It's so pretty there with a giant, hilly field with picnic benches scattered, a little beach area for swimming and off to the side there's a boat launching site. The sun was starting to go down when we arrived so I'm sorry for the crappy photo quality!
