The Best & Worst of Netflix #5

The Call

Fantastic movie! I love a good thriller and this one did not disappoint! It kept me interested and on the edge of my seat the entire time. A 911 operator receives a call from a girl who's been kidnapped by a man who kills blonde teenagers (if you watch it you'll find out why only blonde teenagers). The operator helps the girl through everything over the phone. Its really good!

A Haunted House 2

I don't know what it is about these types of movies but I love them. The 'parody of other movies' type of movie. Think Scary Movie, Epic Movie etc. I watched A Haunted House a while ago and I thought it was pretty good so when I saw the second one on Netflix the other day I couldn't help but watch it! I found it really funny. Kind of 'stupid funny' but I like that every once in a while. I watched. I laughed. I give it 4 stars.

Daddy's Home

I was slightly disappointed by this one. I still liked it but I was wanting to see this one for a while and it just wasn't as good as I was hoping. I hate when movies just like jump right into the story- do you know what I mean? I like the story to build. They definitely jumped right into this one and it felt kind of rushed. It had a typical storyline of two dads (one step) that competed for the affection of their children.

Criminal Activities

I'm not usually one for crime based movies surprisingly since a lot of my favorite books are crime thrillers but this one was okay. A group of friends borrow money from the mob (unaware) and end up needing to do some pretty sketchy things to pay the mob back. It was a little slow throughout the entire movie and it would have only received two stars because of it being boring BUT the ending had a pretty nice twist and it sort of made the movie for me.

Hell and Back

This stop motion animated movie is definitely not for kids. I mean I guess the title sort of implies that but still. Three friends end up in Hell because one friend broke a blood oath and got sucked into a portal and the other two friends go down to save him. I did like it but I really don't think it would be everyone's cup of tea.

Wonderful Wednesday #1

After reading Michelle's Wonderful Wednesday posts for quite some time now, I've decided that it might be nice to write down all the things that have reached the wonderful scale in my life during the week!

We held off on getting Lux a crib because she was supposed to sleep in her bassinet next to our bed until she was at least five months old. To make a long story short- she hated the bassinet and has been sleeping in our bed for the last two months. Now we have her crib all set up and I can finally stretch out in my own bed again! It'll be glorious.

It truly is a wonderful week when all the fun, festive fall things start popping up! We spent the day in the South Shore walking the streets of Mahone Bay looking at all of the awesome scarecrows set up around town. I'll have a post up soon about it!

♥ S Q U A S H T A S T I C
The day of the scarecrow festival we also went to Squashtastic. We've never been before and it ended up just being a farmer's market type of deal with a couple of sculptures made out of squash. We were totally diggin' it though. We bought a bunch of pumpkins and squash really cheap. Bonus.

♥ S K O R  F U D G E
OMG. I have never tasted anything so delightful in my LIFE. We bought a small hunk of skor fudge while we were at Squashtastic and I'm now wishing we went back and stocked up on the stuff. Even Craig couldn't contain his drooling once he tried it and he doesn't even like fudge. I wish I had a photo to show you guys but it vanished rather quickly once we got into the car...

I managed to knock off four more provincial parks this weekend. It helped that they were all rather close to one another but I was quite excited about it.

The smell of pumpkin spice filling our apartment is giving me all of the fall feels.

TELL ME SOMETHING WONDERFUL THAT HAPPENED DURING YOUR WEEK!

Shubenacadie Wildlife Park

Last weekend the fam jam and I took a little trip to the wildlife park. The day started as usual...

Me: What do you want to do today?
Craig: I don't know
Me: Want to go to the wildlife park?
Craig: Okay

Superb planners we are.

The wildlife park grounds are beautiful. Whimsy and forested.
The air was warm and refreshing scented by flowers and a little bit of animal poo.

There's an abundance of wildlife ranging from turkeys to cougars to bears to wolves. They claim that most of these animals were either hurt in the wild or were born in captivity and have become too dependant upon humans, therefore, they cannot be released back into the wild. While I have no doubt that these creatures are well taken care of I just couldn't help but feel sad as we walked around, staring into cages.

The peacocks definitely ran the show. They were just roaming freely, everywhere you looked. Probably taunting the other animals with their free-ness.

As this was Lux's first time at a wildlife park we of course needed to go to the gift shop and buy her a little souvenir in the form of a pretty glammed out snake.

We also picked up a souvenir for ourselves. A little glass squirrel.

You might thinking, why a squirrel?

Well, the funniest thing happened at the park.

We stopped for a pee break about halfway through and as we were standing around a funny little squirrel made its way over to Lux's stroller and hopped up on the wheel. I thought this was the cutest thing until that little critter decided to run up the stroller and run across Lux's head! It left a tiny little scratch but honestly it was just so funny we couldn't stop laughing.

So even though I had some sad feelings towards the caged animals, all in all we had a pretty wonderful day.

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO A WILDLIFE PARK?

The Daddy Tag

I saw this tag on Mimi Rose & Me and I thought it was just the cutest thing! I asked Craig the questions and these were his answers...

1. ARE YOU A STAY AT HOME DADDY OR A WORKING DADDY?
I'm a working dad

2. WOULD YOU HAVE IT ANY OTHER WAY?
Yes I'd be a stay at home dad until she was older

3. DO YOU CO-CHANGE DIRTY DIAPERS? EVEN THE VERY SMELLY ONES?
I have but I don't usually

4. A LITTLE FAIRY GIVES YOU THE POSSIBILITY OF BREASTFEEDING. ARE YOU GOING FOR IT OR DO YOU RUN AWAY?
Depends on if I get boobs or not. I don't want to do it if I get boobs.

5. WHAT IS THE ONE MUST HAVE ITEM FOR A DADDY?
The swing because sometimes it settles her down....until she hates it.

6. HOW MANY KIDS DO YOU PLAN ON HAVING?
I'd like to have three. One naturally like we already did and two adopted.

7. BOY'S NIGHTS. HOW OFTEN DO YOU HAVE THEM?
I don't have boy's nights. I go to the skatepark on the weekends but that's it.

8. YOUR CHILDREN'S FAVOURITE ACHIEVEMENT?
Lifting herself up at only two months.

9. WHAT IS YOUR BEST MEMORY WITH YOUR KID(S)?
The night she was born when she held my finger all night.

10. NAME ONE THING YOU MISS SINCE BEING A DADDY?
Nothing. I'd rather this.

11. WEIGHT GAIN BEFORE PREGNANCY, DURING AND AFTER? AND WE MEAN YOU DADDY. NOT THE MOMMY!
I've weighed the same for like 6 years.

12. DREAM HOLIDAY WITH YOUR KIDS?
When they're 8 or 9 Disney World for 3 weeks so they can have tons of fun and we can have just as much fun.

13. DREAM HOLIDAY WITHOUT YOUR KIDS OR EVEN WITHOUT YOUR OTHER HALF? (YOU'RE ALLOWED TO DREAM).
If I were going alone I'd probably go to Skatopia and spend two weeks there. If it were me and you we'd ride a motorcycle through the UK.

14. HOW HAS YOUR LIFE CHANGED SINCE HAVING KIDS?
What was it like before? Life is busier for sure. I'm learning to enjoy the little things more like holidays and stuff because they are Lux's firsts.

15. FINISH THE SENTENCE "IT MAKES MY HEART MELT WHEN..."
When I see her bottom lip pout out before she cries.

16. FAVOURITE BEER BRAND AND FOOTBALL TEAM?
I don't have a favourite beer brand and I don't watch football.

17. HUGGIES OR PAMPERS?
Pampers. They make it easier with the blue line. I can tell she needs to be changed from across the room.

18. HAVE YOU ALWAYS WANTED KIDS?
Yes I've always wanted kids.

19. BEST PART OF BEING A DAD?
Just getting to hang out with her and watch her learn new things.

Well I quite enjoyed that! I hope you did too :) It's so interesting reading a dad's perspective on parenting. If any mom bloggers out there do this tag leave a link in the comments! I'd love to read them.

Blog Exposure Opportunity!

Okay, so.

I've been thinking a lot lately about blogging. The blogging community to be more precise. To be even more precise the lack of "community" there seems to be in the blogging world lately.

I've only been blogging for two years now but even in that short amount of time I've noticed a slight decrease in the amount of support bloggers show other bloggers. I don't necessarily mean the bigger bloggers because they still seem to get tons of support but I'm talking about the smaller guys.

I remember when I first started blogging and finally got a few followers.

People supported my blog and I supported them right back. Always commenting on each other's posts. Honestly, these people felt more like my friends than just some random readers. It felt nice.

I don't get that feeling anymore. I don't feel like I have a group of supporters (friends) anymore. And it really doesn't feel nice.

I don't think its intentional really. I think blogging has just become this thing that everyone wants to do. And instead of actually engaging with and supporting other bloggers its all become about who gets the most followers.

Trust me, I'm not saying every blogger is like this but I feel like the sense of community is lost. But I think we can get it back.

I've decided starting October 1 I am going to feature a blogger of the month on my blog.

I want to focus mainly on the smaller blogs so I'll only be giving this opportunity to blogs with 500 or less bloglovin followers.

If you are chosen for Blogger of the Month your blog button will be featured in my sidebar all month long, there will be a shoutout to your blog at the end of every post I write for the month, I will re-tweet any blog related posts on Twitter, and finally an interview post at the end of the month showcasing you and your blog.

By the way this is all free of charge of course! I'm not looking to sell ad space. I just think its time that I give back to the blogging community a little bit :)

If you're interested in becoming Blogger of the Month please send an email to rjessome544@gmail.com with the subject Blogger of the Month and leave a link to your blog. Remember, only blogs with 500 or less bloglovin followers! If I don't receive any emails regarding this I will actively seek out blogs myself and ask if they wish to be featured...just because! :)

Dresser Turned Buffet | Furniture Makeover

As some of you may know we have recently moved to a new apartment. This apartment came with more space than our last one which means more furniture to fill it up with! We found an old dresser on Kijiji (a website just like Craigslist) for $60. Initially I wanted to do it over and use it as a TV stand in our living room but it was much too big to fit in the corner SO we decided to use it as an accent piece (a buffet if you will) and I am so so happy with the way it turned out!!

Here it is before. Well, not exactly how it was before. I forgot to take a picture when we first bought it but there was originally 3 drawers along the top and Craig built a shelf inside instead of having the drawers. Like I said we were supposed to use this as a TV stand so the shelf was put in for the Xbox and stuff to have a place to go. Either way I think it turned out quite nice with the shelf instead of the drawers!

I am so in love with how it turned out!! Its definitely my favourite piece in the apartment at the moment. We used the paint colour 'Touch of Grey' and then just white paint along some grooves which I think made it pop so wonderfully! The handles were spray painted white also but for some reason they came out looking more grey than white.

This piece will be used to display picture frames and other little things so i'll show you how it looks once I have everything the way I want it!

Here's a little side by side to really get an idea of the before and after..

Let me know what you think! I also just re-painted an old antique mirror a pretty funky colour that will be hung above this so i'll show you that once its complete!

Thanks for reading!

What's In My Makeup Bag

Are you ready for probably the smallest what's in my makeup bag post you've ever seen? I don't wear a ton of makeup, I don't know how to do my makeup very well and I don't exactly own anything other than drugstore makeup- But that's okay! I'm doing this post because I actually like spending my time reading about makeup and wishing I knew more about it than I do.

So I think I'm going to try to learn more about it and attempt some new looks.

But to start off, here is a post showcasing my measly makeup collection!

Firstly, I bought this Adrienne Vittadini bag at Winners for less than ten dollars. It's cute but I mainly picked it up because it matched my bathroom...

Foundation. For the past few months I've been using the Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse in the shade 'Made for Ghosts' (aka porcelain ivory). I really liked this at first but I don't know. I just haven't been liking it as much lately. Do you ever get like that? You love a foundation the first time you buy it but once you get it again you're like Why did I love this? Yeah. I plan on doing a review on it soon so you can see how it wears.

Concealer 1. My first concealer is the Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer. I've purchased this time and time again. It doesn't give amazing coverage but it's fantastic for lightening up under the eyes. A lot of the time if I'm not in the mood for makeup i'll just stick some of this under my eyes and it actually looks decent.

Concealer 2. Hard Candy Glamoflauge Heavy Duty Concealer. The concealer of all concealers when you're on a budget. This stuff is definitely concealing! A little goes a very long way with this stuff. I've had this for god knows how long and I haven't even made a dent in the tube yet. I only use this when i'm in desperate need of covering something up. Like a really bad pimple or dark under eyes.

Blender. I was that girl who hated using anything but her fingers when applying makeup. Brushes left streaks and sponges just didn't work for me. Until I got this bad boy. I believe the brand is TRUBeauty? I didn't save the package but it is awesome. It was also infused with chamomile so the first few times I used it my face smelled amazing!

Powder. I only use this Wet'N'Wild pressed powder over and under my eyes to help keep my concealer from creasing. Other than that my skin is way too dry to use powder over it.

Blush. Blush is one of my favorite makeup items. I bought this Rimmel London one in the shade Live Pink. Its pretty. I like it.

So that's it. Let me know what your favorite makeup brands are and which ones I should try out!

The Best Moisturizing Body Washes from Live Clean

Today i'm excited to be sharing my top picks when it comes to Live Clean body washes! When it comes to body wash, being super moisturizing is just one of the things I need for a body wash to make it on my favourite's list. Along with organic ingredients, a vegan formula and amazing scents- I had no choice but to add these four great body washes to my list!

My absolute favourite among the four is the Vanilla Oatmeal soothing body wash. I picked up the vanilla oatmeal hand soap a while ago and I loved it so much! I was wishing they made that scent in a body wash and you can imagine my excitement when I found out they did.

Oatmeal is amazing when it comes to sensitive skin- I would know, my skin is terribly sensitive- and having organic vanilla and chamomile ingredients this body wash is just the best at nourishing your skin. I love it!

Very close favourite runner-ups include the Argan Oil Replenishing body wash which I talked about here, the Fresh Water Hydrating body wash and Coconut Milk Moisturizing body wash.

All four of these are amazing at restoring moisture balance which helps with your skins texture and elasticity. Not to mention they all smell incredible!

And as always; if what I've said didn't convince you to try these out here are more reasons to try these or any Live Clean products:

98% plant derived

Life's Little Annoyances

Did you ever have one of those days where everything seems to go wrong? Even the smallest of things will cause so much frustration! This happened to me the other day and it made me think about all of the teeny little things that happen throughout the day that just annoy me.

1 Stubbing your toe

2 When you try out a new hairstyle and it looks amazing but no matter how hard you try to re-create that look you can never get it!

3 Nail polish chipping an hour after you apply it

4 Itchy armpits after shaving

5 Knotty hair even after you brush it 10 times

6 Losing a sneeze

7 Makeup lines

8 Finding a hole in your favorite shirt

9 Realizing you forgot to do laundry and you have nothing clean to wear

10 The water turning cold in the shower

11 Starting your period while away on vacation

12 Hang nails

13 Dropping your blush and having it crack into a billion little pieces

14 Realizing you forgot something at the grocery store once you get back home

15 Being woken up from a nap

LET ME KNOW WHAT LITTLE THINGS ANNOY YOU!

Laurie Provincial Park | Grand Lake, NS

Oh look, another Provincial Park post! Sorry if these are boring for you guys but like I said in my Anthony Provincial Park post, I'm attempting to visit every Provincial Park in Nova Scotia. And these parks are so beautiful I just have to share them with you all in hopes that they might cause you to want to visit Nova Scotia one day. So really, i'm doing you a favour with these posts. You're welcome.

Laurie Park is suitable for day use with a beautiful lake you can swim in but the best part about this park is that its also a campground. Its quiet and stunning and you just breathe in the fresh air that smells amazing. Yes, the air smells amazing. We are most definitely heading back here next summer for a couple of camping trips when Lux is a little older.

BABY OOTD | Cargo Girl

Love this little outfit! The shirt and pants came from Joe Fresh but I can't link them because these were actually purchased 2 years ago! Craig and I bought this outfit for Lux's older cousin and it was kindly passed down to Lux! I think the pants are just adorable.

East Hants Historical Society Museum

Those of you who are long time readers of this blog know how much I love hittin' up museums! I know its kind of dorky but I don't know what it is about them, I just love museums. Anyway, we came across this one and it was free admission so we popped in!

The East Hants Historical Society Museum is a non-profit organization devoted to the promotion and preservation of history within East Hants. Pretty much everything in there was donated by residents of East Hants.

The thing I was the most awestruck about was the painting inside the museum. The walls were gorgeously painted and the volunteer worker told us that a man painted the walls and ceiling with a peacock feather! Impressive.

I didn't take many photos because the volunteer was kind of lurking around us the whole time and I felt a little uncomfortable snapping pictures of everything.

HAVE YOU BEEN TO ANY MUSEUMS RECENTLY?
