Chatty Chat

Sometimes writing posts about nothing are the most fun to write, and interesting to read. So let's just have a little chat. If you were here yesterday you would know that I finally cut my long hair. I had it long for most of my life but this past year I really let it grow. Cutting it was a big deal to me. And not just in a way like "oh no, I don't want to lose my long hair!" I've just not been feeling quite like myself lately. I won't get into it now. Lets just say stress is a killer.

Anyway, I am in love with my new hair. I said yesterday that I would attempt to get a better picture for you.

I really can't take a picture.

Another thing I thought i'd mention is my new blog design! Surprise, surprise. I honestly don't know whats wrong with me. I can't keep the same design for more than a month. Actually the last one I had didn't even make it a month. I can't even say that I won't change it anymore because I know that'll be a lie. I just become bored way too easily. I end up hating the look of my blog after so long. So much so that I HAVE to change it. So, let it be known in this post that you're probably going to be seeing about 1,000,000 different blog designs. We'll accept it now and just move on.

My vacation starts in 1 week! I am SO looking forward to having a week off of work. Its definitely needed right now. We're heading to PEI for a few days. That's pretty exciting. I've never been there before. Also this weekend is a long one so i'll have a short week at work leading into my vacation.

My giveaway is almost over guys! There is only like 4 hours or something left to enter. I didn't have a whole lot of people enter but thats okay- that gives everyone who did enter a better shot at winning ;) Click here to enter!

I don't really have anything else to talk about.

I'm making potatoes right now. They smell pretty good.

WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN UP TO?

A Fresh New Look!

I cut my hair!! I can't believe I did to be honest. I was dead set on leaving my hair grow for a whole year (jan-jan) but lately my hair has been dragging me down. It just got so big and thick and I really hated blowdrying and straightening it at the moment because its summer and its hot. Thick hair and summer just don't go together.

This is the longest my hair has been in a while. We measured it at 26.5 inches last night! I had about 3 different colors running through it. The ends were a little fried but not too bad.

I couldn't get a half decent picture of it! I feel like this picture doesn't do it justice! I love it a lot!
She cut 7 inches off and gave me layers throughout. I added some highlights and also had it thinned out. My head feels soo light now! I'll keep trying to get a better picture to show you but for now, this'll do.

I was a little nervous to cut my hair. I think I had just grown so attached to my long hair (is it weird to be attached to hair?) and I wasn't sure if I would regret cutting it or not. I don't.

I think i'm going to go out and purchase some new makeup i've been wanting to try tonight. I've actually been having a really tough time lately- I may talk about it sometime, i'm not sure- so this hair cut was just the first of many changes i'll be making on my road to happiness :)

TELL ME ABOUT YOUR LAST HAIR CUT! DID YOU FEEL GREAT AFTERWARDS? DID YOU REGRET IT?

Beauty Box 5 | July 2015

Another month, another beauty box! I feel like I get my beauty box 5 way later than everyone else? It just arrived yesterday and i've seen people on youtube post their boxes like 2 weeks ago. Maybe they take longer to get to Canada. Who knows- OH WELL! Let's get on with it shall we?

OFRA Lip Gloss (full size)- This is in the shade Natural. Its nice and shiny and it smells really good. Almost like a cupcake. I can see me wearing this.

OFRA Lip Liner (full size)- In the shade Mauve. I've never used lip liner before. I'll probably try it out though.

Love Life Skin Collection- Two little sample packs of the Intensive Recovery Serum and two packs of the Restorative Night Cream. This stuff sounds great. It says it was first created to help chemotherapy patients' sensitive skin recover. I'm excited to try this.

Nanacoco Nail Polish (full size)- In the shade Hope of Spring. I think this is a very pretty color. Definitely going to try it out!

Pur-lisse Flash Tattoos- These things are popping up in all of the beauty boxes lately. I'm interested in seeing how they work but I can't see me wearing these out anywhere. Kinda cool though.

Overall i'm pretty happy with this months' box! 3 full sized items isn't too bad at all. Let me know which item you think looks the most interesting!

Book Review | Doppler by Erlend Loe

Doppler by Erlend Loe

Pages: 183
Rating:

"an enchanting modern fable about a man and his moose"

After the death of his father, Andreas Doppler abandons his home, his family, his career, and the trappings of modern civilization to live in a makeshift tent in the forest. There, he reluctantly adopts an orphaned moose-calf he names Bongo. Or is it Bongo who adopts him? They soon grow to depend on each other in unusual and unexpected ways, and together they devote themselves to the art of survival and some surprising results.

Different. Thats the best word I can think of to describe this book.At first, I didn't get it. The man- Doppler- one day falls off of his bicycle and decides to leave his job and his family and go live in the woods. I just couldn't wrap my head around it. I totally understand 'getting away' for a while, but to up and leave your family? It just wasn't something I could get behind. The fact that he decides to take care of an orphaned moose just confused me even more. You could plainly see that he was indeed capable of caring for something. A lot of the book goes on to tell about his goings-on in the forest and you soon realize he really doesn't like people. I have to admit, by the end of the book I started to like Doppler. I'm not even sure why. I guess you just start to see things the way he does (not saying I would ever leave my children behind to go live in a tent in the forest).

This book doesn't really have a clear message. There isn't really "a story". I think you just have to take it as it is. A tale about a man and a moose. That's that. I do recommend reading it though. It was quite good.

HAVE YOU READ DOPPLER? IF SO, LET ME KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS ON IT.

C is for Cookie...that's good enough for me

I am a huge cookie lover. Who am I kidding? I love any baked dessert! I love buying the Pillsbury themed sugar cookies. I always make sure I buy the cute pumpkin ones at Halloween and the easter bunny ones around Easter time.

I came across these Minion sugar cookies the other day and they were too cute not to buy!

I love the Pillsbury sugar cookies because 1. I don't need to prepare them myself and 2. They only take 10 minutes to bake.

These are a huge hit around here. Between me and Craig the 24 of these were practically gone in one day!

But its okay...everyone deserves a cookie every now and then.

WHAT KIND OF COOKIES ARE YOUR FAVORITE?

Basically you hook yourself up to a harness and some hooks and you climb through the trees going through all of these fun ( and sometimes hard ) obstacles. If you're ever in the area I highly suggest checking TreeGo out!

Make-up Application Tools | What I Prefer

This past year I've really gotten into trying out new things when it comes to beauty products. I think I owe a lot of that to watching Youtube and reading blogs.

When you see so many people raving about something, you can't help but become interested in it.

Over the past few months i've been trying out different tools for applying my makeup. These ones to be exact:

The Real Techniques Stippling Brush and the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge.

When I purchased these products it was my first time ever using any sort of applicators besides my fingers (oh, and that time I used to use those tiny cheap white sponges from Walmart, you know the ones) and guess what...

I still prefer using my fingers.

"Ew. Gross. Do you know how dirty your fingers are?" Yes, I'm aware. But let me tell you why I prefer using my fingers over any other makeup applicator.

First, I almost did like the RT stippling brush. It seemed to apply my makeup fairly well and it didn't really seem to leave much streakiness behind. Soon after using it though I noticed my face was breaking out a lot more than usual.

Now for all of you out there who think using your fingers to apply your foundation is the most unsanitary way of doing it, I for one think you're wrong.

Let's look at brushes and sponges. You use them once and they're pretty much covered in makeup. I don't know of a single person who takes the time to wash out all of their brushes after every single use.  Maybe every couple of days but honestly from what i've seen and read most people give their brushes a good washing once a week.

So whether your brushes are laying in your makeup bag or sitting all pretty and organized in your brush holder- they're still going to collect dirt and dust. No matter what. Dust is forever circulating around your house no matter how clean it is. You then go ahead and start putting your makeup on with that dirt and dust covered brush.

As for the sponge. I think they're even worse. Even if you wash your sponge out after every use- Its a sponge! Anything and everything that comes into contact with it is most likely going to absorb right in.

When I use my fingers to apply at least I know that i've just given my hands a really good washing before starting. Every single time. And as I said earlier, using the brush was making my face breakout a lot more than usual. The only time I would even get a pimple or two was around 'that time' but now i've been struggling with little tiny bumps all over my face.

And besides that, when I used the sponge I just didn't get it. I couldn't understand what all the hype was about. It didn't make my foundation look amazing and honestly I felt like I had to use twice as much makeup with it.

I think it all comes down to trends. We see so many of our favorite youtubers or bloggers raving about this and that and how you must use something other than your fingers to apply makeup.

I've never been one to follow trends. If I see something I might be interested in- i'll try it out!
If I end up not liking it, well, you get posts like this!

I know i'll probably get a few people on here who strongly disagree with me and I encourage it! Please, let me know what you honestly think about brushes and sponges! Maybe i'm just doing it wrong.

Flashback Friday #34 | Historic Gardens

These pictures are from way back in September of 2011. We had gone camping in Annapolis Royal (very pretty town) and decided to walk through the Historic Gardens. So many beautiful flowers!

Looking back at these photos i've decided I need to go back there asap!

MY FAVORITE FLOWER IS A LILY. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE?

I'm Obsessed

I'm a 25 year old and, as most of the world is, I am completely obsessed with Pretty Little Liars. GAH

This show is so irritatingly good! I love it, I hate it, I can't stop binge watching it!

I've been watching it since it came out but lately I have to rely on Netflix to watch the newest season. They just put season 5 on last week (?) i'm pretty sure and i've started watching it at the beginning of this week. I'm already half way through the season...

I needed to pace myself because I don't want to finish it all so quickly.

I find the show so annoying with pretty much every episode I watch-

- Who is A now?
- Why do 17 year olds have military grade spy equipment?
- Why can't one of them tell the truth just ONE time!!
- Is Mona good, is she bad? I'M SO CONFUSED

And yet.....

I'm totally addicted.

I can easily just sit down and let 3 episodes play one after the other.

Like I said i'm only half way through season 5 so no spoilers please! Just let me know i'm not alone?

Do you have a love/hate relationship with PLL like I do? Who's your favorite liar? I think mine is Hanna.

The Love/Hate Tag

picture from google
I was tagged by both Sinead and Natalie Ann to do the Love/Hate tag. So thank you :) I love doing tags!

THE RULES

List ten things you love and ten things you hate.
Tag 10 other bloggers to do the tag next.

TEN THINGS I LOVE

1. Midday Naps I always find my bed to be at its most comfiest in the middle of the day. I have no problem falling straight asleep in the afternoon.

2. The Rain I love the smell, the feeling, the sound. Everything about the rain just relaxes me.

3. Having my feet rubbed/back scratched/hair played with Anything at all will do.

4. The smell of morning I'm barely ever an early riser but on those rare occasions when I actually get up and have to go outside it just smells so good. I guess its the dew left in the air at that time.

5. Reading an amazing book I love finding a good book that I just can't put down and then I actually think about it for days after.

6. Being someplace i've never been before I love exploring and just being somewhere i've never seen. Even if its just a road i've never driven down before. I love the feeling of seeing new surroundings.

7. Laughing until I cry Best feeling in the world. It should happen a lot more than it actually does.

8. My family I really have the best family. & not just my family- Craig's family too. I'm really lucky to be surrounded by amazing people.

9. Decorating I love decorating. Sometimes I wish I went to school for interior design but honestly there isn't much of a market for it around here.

10. Halloween Who doesn't love Halloween? I pretty much love all of October. There's just something about that month. I love all things creepy and October just brings it. I always wished I could live in HalloweenTown when I was younger (I may still secretly wish for it)

TEN THINGS I HATE

1. Spiders Probably the only creepy thing I don't like. Ew

2. When people lie Why? There's never any reason to lie. The truth always comes out and then you end up looking bad.

3. Blood Seriously makes me sick. I cannot stand to see blood in real life. I can watch the goriest of movies and that doesn't bother me at all. But the tiniest bit of blood in real life and i'm gone.

4. A messy house I'm not saying my house never gets messy but when I notice it is getting messy I feel strange about it. Like I don't want to be in my own house lol Its weird to explain.

5. Being told what to do I don't have a problem with authority or rules. I love following rules to be honest. I just hate when I feel like someone is trying to control me or make decisions for me.

6. Nervous butterflies Like the kind I get when I have to go to the doctor. Or the dentist. Yes, I still get nervous even thinking about going to the dentist.

7. Rude cashiers, waiters, etc Theres no need of it. If you hate your job so much, just quit. There's no reason in making a customers day bad because you're having a bad day.

8. Spitting Gross. I HATE when people spit.

9. When people take advantage of another person's kindness This happens way too much. I should know, it happens to me quite a bit.

10. Loving the taste of junk food Why can't I love the taste of healthy food more?

Fultz House Museum

I absolutely love visiting museums. I never really thought I was all that into history but now that I think about it, I really kind of am. I love learning about things and trying to imagine what a certain time was like before now.

Yesterday we visited The Fultz House Museum. This museum is located in Sackville and used to belong to a man named Bennett Fultz. The house now contains tons of artifacts, photographs and displays that reflect over 200 years of Sackville's history.

This is the house. I didn't get the best picture of it but this is good enough. So you walk in the back door and someone there greets you and offers to give you a tour. Its also free admission which I was pleasantly surprised about! Most museums charge a fee.

The first shelf shows photos of Bennett and his wife Mary. The smaller photos next to them are their 8 children. The bottom shelf holds photos of some of their relatives.

The teachers code of conduct from 1875 was pretty crazy! I always think I would have loved to live in that time but all of those different rules (!) I don't think I could handle it.

The museum grounds were beautiful. A little gazebo in the front and a nature path along the back.
